When I am out and about looking through resale shops and I see something that sparks my interest I usually wonder ... Who was the woman who owned this ? What must she have been like ?For instance this Lilly Table, this Particular table base was found in one of my favorite shops in Kalamazoo Mi.It was in incredible shape and had a 3/4 inch top, a definite upgrade if I'm not mistaken. This particular table was manufactured by Drexel, but is often attributed to a very popular designer today...one of the reasons I bought it was the Vendor tag was still in place... In the 60's-70's this table if purchased in Kalamazoo, would have come from one of three rather Glamorous places..Very likely the Vogue Shoppe (I worked there briefly) The clientele at the Vogue Shoppe were rich woman married to mid and upper level executives in the various companies in Kalamazoo at the time..People with inherited wealth did not have their Interiors done there...These woman smoked and had their hair DONE, then fixed up midweek at The Continental Styling Salon or Willows.... they gave parties and went to lunch NOT TO WORK...they drank VO and Water ...they wore Capizeos in gold with Rhinestones on the Toes...they were FUN...God I loved them and now they are all gone...all but one...I only have one left...
