Hello, it’s Thursday an on and off rainy day here in Houston…
Not to sure I’ll get my walk in today. I had been out about 10 min. and did
about 888 steps when the rain came earlier… Now it is pouring. …Yesterday when I
was out walking on one of my favorite streets I tried to take photos of this
rather “Faded Rose” of a 1950’s colonial confusion of a house at some time
painted mint green kind of looks like an old dummy May Day cake…BUT the double
front Doors Painted Black and peeling are really fantastic… They are the kind
you see all over Paris with the center knob and the raised panel circle in the
middle. Unfortunately I could not get any photos where the doors would show any
detail, as I wasn’t going to go onto the property and risk someone coming out
and asking why I was photographing their house…” Oh It's such an interesting mess
just thought I’d snap a few shots”… NO NO NO… that wouldn’t work. I’ve loved
this style of door as long as I can remember they used to have the Knob in the
very center of the circle in the middle of the door, but in today’s world the
hardware for such a deep backset is rather hard to come by. There is a company
in London but the knobs they offer aren’t anything great and if your going to
have those beautiful doors the knobs should be great as well…The front door of
ones house is so important, it sets the tone for the whole house… I just hate those entry doors with those oval
windows and the fake leaded glass the ones from the big box stores… If one has
limited funds go to the local building salvage yard or Habitat for Humanity. You
will likely find an absolutely beautiful door for a very reasonable price, the
original owner may have taken it down and put up a door from a big box store…
