Elegant Misunderstood....The Short and Sweet Of It.....

I am not sure whether I have written  how problematic I find the misuse of the word ELEGANT. I think the word brings to mind something SMOOTH. I was watching a Popular Decorating network the other night and cringing at the grammar used by the so called designer." This here room", what the hell? ... I thought designers were well spoken sophisticated people, dressed well and using at least acceptable grammar.
Now I'm not trying to tell you who know me that I am some" Little Lord Fauntleroy" ... although some of you are saying "yes you are"... I am saying that I was trained at a time when Interior Designers were professional people who were dressed as a Designer would thought to be be dressed, and acted with a certain amount of STYLE. We knew that NO room with Ship Lapp Walls and an old rusty locker re-purposed  as a console was EVER elegant EVER! I don't care how many Paul Hansen crystal lamps you put on that rusty old thing its still just a piece of junk . Ivory or Silver Satin is elegant... Burlap bags even on a fauteuil are NOT elegant. A White on White Damask wall covering is is elegant, Brown Plaid wall-covering is NOT and will never be ...Neither is a chrome and glass 5 arm light fixture with white barrel shades, but a big Crystal Chandelier with Silk trumpet shades is....another thing that is not elegant is when your designer speaks in double negatives...well maybe she "don't know no better"...
